Quincy Otgaar

Quincy Otgaar

Quincy Otgaar (he/him) is a dancer, choreographer, and storyteller whose work explores the intersection of movement, imagination, and identity. Born and raised in the Netherlands (1999), Quincy creates performances that uncover the unspoken—stories stored in the body, emotions caught between memory and transformation. Quincy is an artist whose journey into the world of art began through movement.

From a young age, dance became a powerful way for him to navigate the world, offering a language before he even had words to express themselves. As they grew older, Quincy realized that art was not only a means of personal expression but also a way to break free from the rigid constraints of societal expectations. Over time, their artistic practice has evolved to combine dance with storytelling and immersive performances, allowing them to explore emotions and stories that transcend the physical body.

As a transgender artist, Quincy’s work is deeply rooted in themes of self-exploration and the ongoing process of becoming. Their artistic journey is not just about finding oneself, but about questioning, reconstructing, and reshaping personal and collective narratives. Through dance, they explore the tension between reality and imagination, vulnerability and strength, presence and disappearance.

Currently developing a new performance in collaboration with DOX, Quincy investigates what happens after self-acceptance. How do we navigate the world once we have reclaimed ourselves? How do past experiences shape our present? In their work, they invite the audience to step into a world where movement, music, and storytelling intertwine—where performers and spectators become part of the same conversation.

By blending dance with storytelling, Quincy creates immersive experiences that blur the lines between performance and reality. Their work is an invitation to feel, to question, and to connect. Through movement, they open doors to new perspectives, pushing beyond what is seen and into what is felt.

DOX Club Lab - Fields of Empathy

Empathy is an act of rebellion.

With Fields of Empathy, Quincy Otgaar invites you into a world where identity is constantly in flux, shaped by both internal struggles and external expectations. This performance strips away the illusion that self-discovery is a finish line and instead reveals the raw, unfiltered reality of what comes next—the doubt, the resistance, the loneliness, but also the resilience.

Through dance, music, and immersive storytelling, five performers and self composed music embody the tension between belonging and alienation. The audience is not merely watching but becoming part of the performance, shifting between roles: the observer, the instigator, the lover. In this space, light manipulates perception, shadows tell untold stories, and movement unearths what words cannot capture.

As a transgender choreographer, Quincy uses imagination and storytelling to challenge how we experience identity—not as something fixed, but as something deeply personal and constantly evolving. They create a space where vulnerability is not weakness, but power.

What does it mean to have empathy?

Fields of Empathy is more than a performance—it’s an experience that lingers, urging you to question, to feel, and to connect.
