Julia van der Wouden
Hello! My name is Julia, I am 23 years old and I am from Groningen.
In 2023, I graduated from Lucia Marthas Institute For Performing Arts, where I obtained both my Bachelor's in Dance and my Bachelor's in Dance Teaching. Throughout my education, I had the privilege of working with numerous choreographers, including Lloyd Cubreath, Ton van Greten, Ashley Wallen, and more. This led to opportunities to work as a dance captain and choreograph various projects. I’ve also worked with Nite and Club Guy and Roni, danced with Mucha Muchacha Company, and more. After my studies, I performed as a dancer for Carnival Cruise Lines. Later, I shifted my focus to exploring new paths within dance and performance. Now, through teaching, choreographing projects, and small productions, I’m more actively involved in creation.
My dream is to tell stories through dance—stories of people and society. I aim to gather as much experience as possible in the field as a dancer and performer, so that I can bring all of that into my own creative work. I want to create spaces where people feel seen, whether they’re dancing or simply observing a performance. I believe that sharing is powerful, and through this, we can form a society where we are ourselves and conquer our fears.
Dance remains my favourite discipline, as it is my main tool for expression. I believe that dance holds the potential to tell the most profound stories and connect us on deeper levels.
At DOX Club, I am part of a place where art and passion meet. I believe this environment will teach me about different artistic disciplines and provide the guidance needed to take the next step in my career. It also provides endless opportunities for growth, development, and new connections within the field.
The learned and developed patterns of human behaviour are a big inspiration of mine. What is visible on the surface often says little about what lies beneath. I’m deeply interested on why people behave the way they do, and the ‘why’ is what drives my storytelling, movement, and art-making. This sense of necessity is what I’m always searching for—how can I make people listen to and reflect on themes that need to be discussed?
If there is something I could tell the world, is to leave fear behind and act out of love for everything and everyone.
